Changes Related to Russian TV Channels Taken Off Air
Due to recent events in Ukraine, the content of TV services, including the selection of TV channels, has changed for Telia as well as other Estonian TV service providers.
On February 25, 2022, based on the order issued by the Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority, Telia took off TV channels RTR Planeta, NTV Mir, Rossia 24, and TV Centre International (TVCI), as those have been inciting hostility and transmitting war propaganda. For the same reason, RBK was taken off air in March.
Furthermore, from March 2 onwards, access to the following TV channels has been restricted via Telia TV due to premature and unilateral termination of the agreement by Telia’s cooperation partner: NTV Serial, NTV Stil, NTV Pravo, Kinomix, Nashe Novoyee Kino, Rodnoye Kino, Indiyskoe Kino, Kinokomediya, Kinoseriya, KVN TV, M-1 Global, Kuhnya TV, Boks TV.
In addition to the aforementioned channels, on March 31, the following channels will no longer be aired due to the termination of cooperation with companies holding rights for these channels: TNT Comedy, 1+2, Pyatnitsa, Moya Planeta, Futbol, Ohota i Rybalka, and Usadba. Due to these changes, TV channels package Esimene Balti Pakett will no longer be available.
TV channel Dozhd has announced a temporary suspension of its activities due to the situation in Russia. Currently, Dozhd broadcasts recorded shows. Dozhd will be available for as long as possible via Telia TV to all viewers, including those who are not subscribed to the TV service.
Due to these changes, Telia will change its TV services agreements by removing the aforementioned channels from Telia TV plans and Telia TV services on April 1. The changes will be applied automatically and will not affect the prices of TV plans. If you are watching some of these channels through the Single Pick option, you will not be charged for these for the period of March 1-31.
To replace the channels taken off air, Telia TV viewers can subscribe to the News Channels plan, which is free for the first two months. The plan includes a selection of international channels that provide an overview of the events in Ukraine: YLE TV1 (from March 21), Euronews RUS, CNN International, France 24, BBC World, Deutsche Welle, CNBC Europe, Al Jazeera, Bloomberg TV, Euronews, etc. You can subscribe to the News Channels plan via Telia’s online self-service portal or via your TV screen.
On March 21, two channels will be added to the single pick option: Current Time/ Nastoyashee Vremya and Ukraine 24. These channels are not part of Telia’s TV plans.
Telia works constantly on finding new and exciting content for the TV service.
Geopolitical events may further influence the availability and selection of TV channels. In this case, viewers will be notified immediately.
